Eco Friendly
Cleaning
How To Help Clean The
Environment
As we observe, many disasters caused by
floods, typhoons, earthquakes and forest fires are attributed
to the so-called climate change. And what causes climate
change? The environmentalists will tell you that the primary
cause is what people do in this world.
Unknowingly, we help create this monster
with our wastes.
The best way that we can help our environment is to start in
our own homes. Doing eco friendly cleaning inside and outside
our homes will help get rid of toxic products which pollute the
air and destroy oxygen giving plants?
What are the steps we can take to do our
eco friendly cleaning? First, start in your kitchen and
bathroom. Remove toxic cleaning products and other
poisonous insect sprays. Small amounts of poison from these
products can be very hazardous to your family’s health. Small
children can get poisoned if they get hold of them. Keep these
toxic products in locked cabinets and use them only if very
necessary. Try using eco friendly cleaning products for your
household use.
Second is to make use of the community
Household Hazardous Waste Pickup service if available. Because
of the danger of toxic products, most communities set a
particular day in a week to collect these toxic wastes. Be sure
to gather all those toxic wastes in a secured place, properly
sealed to avoid leaks. Do not mix toxic wastes with your
regular garbage. Make ready your toxic wastes for the time of
pick up by the Hazardous Waste Pickup service.
Thirdly, as I mentioned earlier, replace
your toxic cleaning products with eco friendly cleaning
products. Although manufacturers are making their products more
eco friendly, it is still safer to make your own cleaning
material. After all, it is more economical and safer. Do your
research online and look for homemade cleaning recipes from
scratch and learn how to make them. You will be amazed to find
out that most of the ingredients are available right there in
your kitchen. One very common ingredient is baking soda. Baking
soda alone is already a cleaning agent for your refrigerators
and ovens.
Next, learn about your water and find
ways how to conserve. Determine if your water is hard or soft.
Knowing what kind of water you have will help you choose the
correct cleaning products that you should use. This way, you
can also avoid polluting water waste. Do not waste water.
Recycled water can be used for cleaning the garage or garden
pathways. Check if there are leaks in your faucets and fix
them.
Lastly, when you purchase paper towels,
sponges, mops, vacuums, etc. consider their health and
environmental impact. Usually it is better to buy those that
are unscented. Buy paper towels made from recycled and
unbleached paper. It is better to use reusable mops and rags
instead of paper. If you are a crafty person, you can even make
your own rags and mops.
If you want to do eco friendly cleaning
in your home, be sensitive and use your senses. If there is
something that smells bad, investigate before it becomes
hazardous.
